plastic surgery
as it's late, this will only be short - like me!!!
tonight i was discussing plastic surgery with some christian girlfriends and one boy. it was interesting how the conversation went. us three girls all seemed to think that as a christian it's probably not something we would do - some ideas were we should be pleased with however we are made and we shouldn't be doing something to meet the 'standards' of the world. however the only boy in the group goes 'well, it's just our bodies, it's not like it's your soul'. for such an innocent conversation - i really can't remember how we got onto the topic - it created some good discussion. ha.

Yeah - it's "just your body" Well it's more than just your body - it houses your soul and GOd still created you the way you were meant to be.....Would you say - "it's just your body" if it's ravaged with drugs and alcohol? Ok that's a little extreme - but why mess with God's perfection in YOU!? Besides - there's much better things you can do with your cash! Unless you've seen that Oprah with the people with BDD?? Body Dysmorphic dysfunction!!! - Only in the USA!!!
How about this for a thought though. We know it's the temple of God, but sometimes I reckon we spend time getting fit and healthy far more because we want to look good than really because we are actually thinking about it being his temple. And when that's true, that isn't really that much different to the surgery. Sure it's more satisfying (and harder), but not actually THAT much different... Just a thought...

Soooooo, no one thinks plastic surgery is a good idea? I must say it's never appealed to me, but on mostly non-spiritual (ethical really) grounds! I just somehow can't stand the concept that there is one "ideal" of beauty - it just somehow devalues the diversity and beauty of individual people. Now I think about it . . . maybe they are kind of spiritual grounds??? I look at my own two gorgeous children and just see perfection and I have a feeling that God looks at me (big nose and all) and sees much the same thing . . . I could be wrong but parenthood has often made me think about stuff like that . . . . I know my own parents and my dear husband look at me and see "gorgeous" even on days (and months and years!) when I don't see "gorgeous" in myself. Why would I want to muck with that????

It is true we are given what we are given but for those who need plastic surgery to repair their nose, ears or breasts because of cancer or a car accident it is accepted and not questioned. But what about those people that came up short in the breast or ear or nose department and it affects their day to day life in a way that others may not understand, Some people dont like themselfs for those reasons. Im not saying plastic surgery will fix your problems but if used for the wright reasons it can make people feel better about themselves. Your body is a temple Yes,and you should treat it like one but even churches sometimes need renovations. If it makes you feel good about yourself do it. Within reason.
And one more thing find me a straight guy that doesn't like a nice pair of fake boobs!!!
